HERE WE GO!

current mood: hopeful

Today happens to be my first day of writing THE MISADVENTURES. I've played around with the beginning over the last week or so, toying with character and the opening five-hundred words. It's all about trying to carve out a niche, one where I can just get my hands in and start to chop away at the whole of the story. Beginnings, for me at least, is the among the more important devices in the plot. Sometimes I struggle to get it right, but when I do everything hence arrives in a flood, and all I can do is try to keep up with myself.

To put it simply, I can never manage to type fast enough to keep up with my thoughts. I doubt I ever will in truth, but that is the fun part.

I've taken a liking to listening to fiction author interviews, such as GRRM on his Song of Ice & Fire, as well as Orson Scott Card, Terry Goodkind(Although I have kinda lost track of his Sword of Truth series to be blunt about it)

I've been thinking about this short story for too long now, it's time to finally sink my teeth into it. The best part of being a writer(yes, even an aspiring writer!)is the excitement you get once an idea comes to mind and you decide to sit down and write on it, regardless of its chances of being published or not.

A lot of people say to me, "I'm getting giddy about this story!"

That is one way to put it I suppose. I call it the "SPARK". Once that idea sparks and you get past those first five pages, you SIMPLY TAKE OFF.

And I'm also 'GIDDY' about a new route for this short story, namely my newly appointed Editor, Jessica(Zonoma on LJ) She has proved to me time and time again that she is skilled in the arts of TEARING WORK APART AND HELPING REBUILD IT FOR THE BETTER, and I am looking forward to trying(though I'm sure to fail) to fight her off on taking out bits and adding bits.

A test of wills.

But good fun just the same.

Okay, bye bye.

What am I doing?

Well, I'm brand new to this whole livejournal thing, but thought it was interesting when discovering it on the George R.R. Martin.com website, the greatest writer in fiction today, if you ask me, and well, anyone who has picked up one of the books in A Song of Ice and Fire.

I'm an aspiring writer myself, I thought I'd have some fun with this. I doubt many people care though, which is fine with me in the long run. Currently, I am prepping for a short story contest called the L. Ron Hubbard Writers of the Future Contest, to which I will showcase a short story entitled(bare with me with the title):

The Misadventures of That Old 'Drunken' Wizard & His Freckled 'Lady' Apprentice. It's going to be a good one. And I'll be having my fingers crossed.

I'm still waiting for the judges to give me their feedback on my last, entitled Apprentice & The Endless Libary. Who knows, I might have already been selected, but I doubt I'll know for a few more weeks, possibly a month or so down the line.

What else, what else?

As any GRRM fan will agree, the waiting for A Dance with Dragons has been long, but I assure everyone that the wait will be well worth it. GRRM always delivers the very best.

In the meantime, however, I've begun the Temeraire series by newcomer fantasy/historical author, Naomi Novik. Her first book left me more than impressed, and her second is shaping up nicely. And her promise of a fourth book is good, good news!

Well, that's all for today, I guess. I'll have a little commentary coming up, as well as progress reports on The Misadventures. Until then, later.
